Starting Point

The fun kidding above fits well to show a comparison between the three basic methods of animation on the internet: Animated GIF, whichs is part of the webpage; the video AVI(or Mov) which needs to be downloaded during half an hour or so, before being seen; and the RealVideo, that starts screening the video just a few seconds after one clicks the LINK. But we can take the opportunity to review a phenomenum which is enchanting the internet. A foolish thing, an amazing foolish thing:

In 1997, nobody knew who he was, the anonymous author who made the baby animation in a new software that would be launched in a Fair in England(see below comments on the claimed paternity). What everybody got to know by that time was that this animation was/is in fact a very simple resource which is bundled together with the software Character Studio (the 3D model and the movements options come ready as a demo - any one may joystick it as a game), but that specific little dancing baby circulated as an attachment through USENET and became famous as the "BabyCha.avi". People found it very funny, hilarious, the little baby.

However the then-anonymous author had not produced a soundtrack, and in May last year a homepage was created for the Dancing Baby with a worldwide content, whose challenge was to know who would be able to put the best music synchronized with the baby dancing. Several participants popped up from all over the planet, and the winner clip can be seen in the Baby's Content Page.

Brazil, as far as we know, did not take part in the content, but the site CINEMABRASIL lended the baby a bossa-nova for him to enjoy, and it seems to be loving the rythm.

By the way, in our First Content of Digital Cinematography for Internet, one among the participants presented a distinct clip working on the same baby model, probably using the same software demo, but with movements completely different from the animation that became worldwidely famous.

The bossa-nova is "ONDA" (Wave) from our maestro and music master Tom Jobim. We thank Paulo Jobim for having caught the free spirit of Internet and the non-profit aim of this Cultural Project, allowing us to make this homage to his father, who contributes here to help cybernetic passionate discussions get a little more "Brazilianlike":

     WAVE (Tom Jobim)

Vem de mansinho a brisa e me diz
